20 years ago this week, Del the Funky Homosapien performed for over 35 minutes at the North American Sega Dreamcast launch party in San Francisco. Released on 9/9/99, the Dreamcast console was a favorite of Del’s which he imported from Japan and featured prominently in his marketing materials and songs at the time.
On September 10th 1999, the following day of the console’s historic North American launch, Del was invited to perform at Club Townsend for all of the Sega employees. I was on hand with my Hi8 video camera and managed to capture most of the performance. Included are appearances from Khaos Unique (featured prominently on Del’s video game-related hit single, “Proto Culture”) as well as fellow Hieroglyphics alum, Pep Love.
For a history of Del’s relationship with video games & otaku culture, read “The History of Del the Funky Homosapien & Video Games.”
